When I fist saw the RS60 as a private GB, I figured I would never get one. Yet here it is, in-stock.
This is definitely one of my favorite boards in my collection -- it's simple, robust, and absolutely gorgeous to have sitting on my desk. The red is unbelievably striking, and this board probably has one of the most beautifully-designed undersides that I've ever seen.
In terms of typing experience, this board is exactly what I was looking for - simple, basic, and stiff. No frills and no extras. If you're a fan of flex, this board is not for you, but it matches my taste perfectly.
However, the typing sound leaves a bit to be desired in terms of complexity and nuance. While I love the raw, natural sound, I would imagine many won't. The modifiers are a bit off, and the number row is far deeper (and more inconsistent) than the rest of the board. I don't mind, but it certainly doesn't align with the keyboard sound meta, especially at such a high price point. I would imagine that some kind of brass internal weight would have improved the sound without changing the looks, and would have justified the price a bit more.
Overall, this is a fantastic board if it matches what you're looking for, since many of the downsides are simply a consequence of a top-mounted board. It looks gorgeous, and has a great, nostalgic sound with the right configuration. And above all of that, it's a robust, no-frills board that can last the rest of your life if you really want it to.
Top mount, check.
Biso bag, check.
Grill, …check!
Always fun with that classic retro inspired bits that unmistakably make RS60 a biso board!
The board is great but this review is specifically for Mekibo and their excellent QC process. I had bad experiences previously receiving boards with anode issues or loose screws scratching the case during shipping and was A-stock graded. Mekibo ship out orders very quick but always made sure what I paid for and expected is what I get.
